Winter Accessory Galore! (Ashley)

Hello all, I hope your holiday was full of fun festivities with friends, family, and food.  Jacklyn and I apologize for our untimely blogging, but are ready to get back on the bandwagon.  During this most wonderful time of the year, I love accessorizing my winter wardrobe.  The trick lies in combining fashion, practicality, and comfort all in one.

Scarfs are an amazing way to accessorize any basic outerwear outfit and to add a bit of color and texture around your face.  But, there is nothing worse than a scarf that is too tight around your neck or itchy, so I always opt for soft textures when picking out my new scarfs.  For a soft, basic look, the scarf below is perfect and keeps you very warm.  With a loose infinity loop, it is easy to throw on and run out the door in a snap while still looking put together and glam.

                                                                     Nordstrom $18

For a more colorful option, this Anthropologie scarf suits your cause.  With a two-tone, infinity loop, it grants color, pattern, warmth, and fun to any outfit.

                                                                   Anthropologie $78

Next, ear warmers!  My ears are constantly cold, so I usually opt for either an ear warmer or ear muffs.  Check them out!  PS Loving the sparkle!

                                                                 Juicy Couture $ 68

For a less expensive version...

                                                                     Nordstrom $38

Earmuff style!

                                                                      Nordstrom $14

Lastly, there is nothing better than a great pair of gloves.  However, I hate the task of taking off my entire glove to send text messages or use my iPhone.  lululemon has found a way to eliminate the chore with its Brisk Run Glove.  The simple black colored gloves have touch-screen fingers to make using your phone in the freeze a breeze.

My own, made-up word: FASHIC. (Jacklyn)

Anyone that knows me, knows I love to accessorize with jewelry. Basics, are well, basic and should be styled as such. Fashion jewelry, may sometimes be, lets just say... over the top.  I like the mix of these two categories, which I call "fashic" (fashion/basic).  A "faschic" jewelry item is one that can be worn everyday, but adds a little somethin-somethin extra. Here are a few of my favorite (and affordable) "fashic"  jewelry items for this season.

My Look of the Week (Ashley)

With the holiday season just around the corner, I am in the mood for adding some spice (pumpkin spice, that is) into my wardrobe.  Nearly in the 20's at night, pants are becoming not only a trend, but a necessity.  At the moment, I am obsessed with bright trouser pants, especially those from Vince Camuto.  With a long, slim leg fit, they flatter any body type and create the illusion of Gisele Bundchen legs.  For most college students, these pants seem fancy, but there are two ways of wearing them.  One is the long leg look added with a fun blouse and killer shoes.  Simple and elegant.  The second is to do a rough cuff at the bottom and a slouchy top for a more relaxed look.  Add a fun shoe for more impact.  Either way, you are guaranteed to make your mark this holiday season.  Depicted here is the Persian Plum color, although beautiful, I opted for the cardinal red!

Nordstroms $ 79.00

On top, maintain the same playfulness in color.  Break away from the classic black and white and add a colored neutral such as mustard with the Persian purple.  With the fit of the pant, it is important to wear a top that is feminine and not too conservative.  Show off some skin!  Covering up your full collar bone and arm will eliminate sex appeal.  I have suggested a top below that I believe to be a perfect color, fit, and style.  It is bold, but beautiful!  Perfect for holiday get-togethers.

For a personal touch, I am obsessed with monogrammed necklaces.  They make any look truly yours and are a chic and elegant accessory.  Despite your budget, there are means of finding brands at any price to show off your wonderful three letters.  I prefer the longer gold strand that hits just below my collar bone, but hey it is yours to decide!

This weeks favorite look of mine. (Jacklyn)

My Pick.
Worn together or separately, these items showcase the perfect fall ensemble. The chartreuse and mustard shades of the top and bottom create a warm, subtle base which is complimented by a turquoise circle scarf. Lastly, the combination of a basic lacey tank and heeled lace-up shoes gives
this outfit a sophisticated, yet sexy look.

Topshop: Knitted Guernsey Style Jumper $78.00

H&M: Top $9.95

J Crew: Tall Vintage Matchstick Cord $78.00

Topshop: Gable Block Heel Lace Up Shoes $130.00

J Crew: Hearthstone Snood $49.50

My Humble Abode Essentials (Ashley)

Here is a sneak peek into my room.  For me, my room is my haven.  As all of my friends will tell you, it takes a lot for me to step out of here.  I want a space that is cozy, comfortable, clean, and pretty.  There is nothing better than walking to a room and feeling immediately relaxed after a long day.  The key for any of my room styling is organized chaos.  My basics are pretty white bedding and colorful and bright pillows and decor.  White bedding offers you a clean palette to style the room and makes it look effortlessly chic.  To add the element of fun, pillows are everything.  I truly believe you can't have enough pillows.  However, I don't like when they are all matchy, matchy.  I definitely want some odd balls in there.  For my current room, I have mixed some darker royal florals with bright, pungent orange and yellow pillows.  The combo doesn't match, but the total effect is something bright, fun, and a little vintage.  Something like this does not need to be expensive.  Rachel Ashwell for Target, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx will do the trick.

Another humble abode essential is flowers.  On a college girl's budget, I can't afford to buy a new bouquet twice a week, so I opt for the less expensive route of fake flowers.  Although they are often viewed negatively, fake flowers do the trick of bringing in some natural, pretty, and simple decor to your room.  I will opt for real flowers when I have the money, but for now fake flowers are a perfect way to liven up a room and make it that much more beautiful. To continue the look of organized chaos, choose flowers that vary and don't exactly match.  Bright peonies, orchids, lilies, hydrangeas will all contribute to a neat look.
Lastly, pictures, pictures, pictures.  I have frames all over my room with the people I care about and it is a great way to spark a smile or relive a funny memory.  One of my favorite ways to display pictures with a bulletin board.  Once again, following the theme, I chose a board that doesn't match anything in my room, but has a similar color of blue and adds another dimension of color.  I am a huge Vera Bradley fan and have chosen one of their boards, which you can too find at Marshalls or TJ Maxx.  The boards allow for a lot of picture space and create a cool collage effect.  All of these pictures create a true sense of ownership and personality.  It makes the room more you.  To add a funny element, opt for the dorky pictures of you and friends, looking at pictures of the same people smiling can get repetitive.  So put those funny pictures up and you will for sure have a silent chuckle every once and a while.

Below are some brands that I think are an inexpensive way to make your room more cozy and beautiful and both are found at wonderful Target!

For amazing white bedding ( a must), no one beats Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic.  On my bed, I have her ruffled white duvet cover and matching pillows.  All of her bedding is simply, comfortable, and pretty with that simple addition of ruffle, pattern, or rouching.

Missoni for Target!  Obsession.  The pillows from this brand are colorful and bright and can totally be mixed and matched to create the "organized chaos" look.

I love all things old. (Jacklyn)

My absolute favorite way of shopping is by rummaging through vintage and consignment shops. Nothing is more rewarding than finding a piece of history that you can be made into your own. I spend many weekend days driving all over Seattle to explore the various second hand stores this city has to offer.

Le Frock
This is by far the best shop to find current designer labels at second hand prices. While still a bit expensive, you will find timeless pieces such as Prada, Chanel, DVF, and Versace.
(317 East Pine Street)

Fremont Vintage Mall
Spend a hilarious afternoon testing out old furniture from the 70s or trying on oversized Mumu's from the 60s at this underground Vintage Mall in Fremont. From ash trays to chandeliers, this mall has anything you could ever want (that is old, of course).
(3419 Fremont Place North)

Fremont Sunday Street Market
Every Sunday from 10am-4pm this Fremont market has various vendors with amazing vintage clothing that can be bargained. Grab a corn on a stick and browse through every vendor because you are bound to find something good.
(3401 Evanston Avenue North)

Lifelong Thrift
This store located right off broadway may not seem like much from first glance, however if you are looking for room decor this is the place to go. At the cheapest prices you will ever see, there are tons of candle holders, frames, and lamps that will fill up a room in no time.
(1017 East Union Street)

Vintage Vixen

If you have an hour or two, go through this website. It offers clothing, jewelry, and accessories from every decade. I have purchased many things from this website and have loved them all.

Versace for H&M... Enough said.  I love how H&M makes designer apparel available and affordable, while still being just as magical as the line on the runway.  Versace is a hit because of their color and embellishment.  As Jacko knows, if it has sequins, studs, sparkles, bright color, I am buying and wearing it immediately.  Check out the website I have linked and find your fave looks.  Nov. 17th could not come sooner.

a few of my faaaavorite things (Jacklyn)

Every winter I am lucky enough to spend time with my family in Sun Valley, Idaho. I get to spend each day in the snow skiing, sledding, and tromping around in my oversized snow boots. Being bundled in warm clothes, drinking Chai lattes, and lounging around with my loved ones is something I look forward to the entire year. I am so in love with Sun Valley that I am tempted to spend my first year after college living in this nature intensive community.

Anyone living in Seattle knows that rain boots are a definite MUST. I cannot tell you how many times I have showed up late to class solely based on my numerous attempts at thrusting on my old rubber rain boots. However, now that I have found these beauties I am able to slip my foot in with grace as well as making it to class on time. These Hunter Watling rain boots serve both function and fashion with the thick utilitarian laces.

Photography is something I have grown incredibly passionate about after living in Prague, Czech Republic last Spring. Capturing beautiful, indescribable moments in time is something words cannot suffice. I spend a large amount of my spare time making scrapbooks, photo albums, or crafting up some sort of art project. Once I am able to save up the money, a Nikon D3100 SLR camera is something I will be purchasing.

On My Mind... (Ashley)

Tel Aviv!  Great food, beautiful people, amazing parties, warm weather, and the ocean, this is my next vacation destination!

Could not be more obsessed with Jason Wu's "Tux Love" line.  There is nothing more chic, savvy, and trendy than a white blazer during this holiday season.  Simple, elegant, a one stop shop.  My only qualm is I need a bigger bow :)

Flower Bomb, my absolute must have.  I believe perfume is an everyday essential for every woman.  The Parisians like to view their perfume as an outward expression of their beauty and sensuality and I completely agree.  Flowerbomb's floral scent is uplifting and romantic and brings a sense of spring to this fall.
